Let's Roll!
Handlebars? We don't need no stinking Handlebars!
The front wheel had a strong tendency to want to fall over when it was the least bit off of center. So I wanted to get a feel for the handling. I stuck a few scrap tubes into the forks and headed for the driveway.
It was very high effort to keep it going straight, and you can see how the frame drops in the front when making a tight turn.
With the Flintstone brakes applied at full pressure I come to a smooth stop. At this point I have doubts about the handling. I need some bars to see if that makes it a lot better.
To build the bars I bring in a team of crack fabricators! Too bad we're not making crack.
Mission accomplished. A simple set of drag bars.
These will do for now, but I might redo the bars to be something a little more interesting.
More neighborhood kids are eager to steal it when it's done.
After riding it with the bars it was managable but it was still like trying to balance the front tire on stilts. The least bit of a turn would require a lot of countersteer effort to keep it from falling. I'm redoing the front end!
Back to the front for a do over!
